     Last issue we introduced characteristics of refractory ceramic fibers. This issue we will continue to introduce other characteristics of refractory ceramic fibers.

     (3) Low density

     Density of refractory ceramic fibers is 90~220kg/m3 which is only 1/5~1/3 of light weight refractory fire brick.  

     (4) Good thermal stability

     Because refractory ceramic fibers are elastic and its fiber is long, even if temperature changes sharply, no structural stress will be generated. And products made of ceramic fiber are porous material and the fibers are intertwined. The expansion of the individual fiber can be absorbed by the product itself. Therefore, supplemented with proper construction technology, sufficient strength and rapid cold and heat resistance can be obtained.

     (5) Good chemical stability

     Except strong alkali, hydrofluoric acid and phosphoric acid, it can not be corroded by other chemicals. Refractory ceramic fibers have excellent chemical stability in oxidizing and neutral atmospheres. Refractory ceramic fibers’ chemical stability is relatively poor when exposed to reducing atmosphere, alkali metal oxides and sulfides, and crystallization is easy to occur, and the fiber performance is deteriorated. The chemical stability of refractory ceramic fibers mainly depends on its chemical composition and the content of impurities.
