Introduction of insulation refractory material for blast furnace 2
Last issue we introduced insulation refractory material for furnace throat. This issue will move on to introduce insulation refractory material for furnace shaft.

2)Insulation refractory material for furnace shaft. The temperature in the upper and middle parts of the furnace shaft is low (400~800 C), and there is no slag formation and slag damage. The insulation refractory material in this part are mainly subjected to the impact of the furnace charge, abrasion of the rising dust or thermal shock of the dust (up to 50 C/min), or the damage caused by alkali and zinc and the deposition of carbon. In the past, this part is mainly built with high-quality clay bricks with low porosity. At present, with more harsh operating conditions of large and medium-sized blast furnace and the requirement of long blast furnace life, furnace shaft requires to be built with insulation refractory material which are excellent in peeling resistance and wear resistance. Phosphate-bonded clay bricks can be used on the upper part of the furnace shaft. The upper and middle parts should be built of sillimanite refractory bricks and high-aluminum refractory bricks with excellent flaking resistance.
In the lower part of the furnace shaft, the temperature is high, and a large amount of slag is formed. This part has to withstand the abrasion of furnace charges when they fall down, the scouring action of the dust when the furnace gas rises, and the erosion effect of the alkali metal vapor. Therefore, this part is required to be built with high-quality clay bricks, high-aluminum bricks or corundum bricks which have good slag resistance, alkali resistance and high temperature strength and wear resistance. Sintered SiC-Si3N4 bricks have been used in recent years.
