The installation techniques of refractory ceramic fiber products
Refractory ceramic fiber products are the major thermal insulation products used for furnace lining. There are different installation techniques including layering,overlapping, filling, mixing and spray coating.

1. Layering
Layering technique is a traditional method used for furnace lining. Usually, different types of cotton felt including felt containing slag and glass felt would be laid in between refractory ceramic fiber products. Although the thermal contraction is noticeable due to the fact that the fiber is parallel with the heated surface, there is 20% decrease in thermal conductivity, which improves the thermal insulation properties. The stud anchors used are usually made from nichrome titanium alloy or iron chromium aluminum alloy which is considered heat resistant. There should be a maximum 300mm distance between the stud anchor row placed on top of the furnace and the end or edge of the blanket, and a minimum 250mm distance when placed on the wall.
2. Overlapping
Overlapping is usually applied to insulate the heated wall of the furnace. Refractory ceramic fiber products like board, blanket and felt are overlapped and then fixed into place with metal stud anchors and binders. Because the fiber and the heated surface are at a vertical angle, thermal construction becomes subtle, resisting to even higher temperatures. However, the thermal conductivity of the fiber in such a case is higher compared with the one using laying technique. Fissures would be found sometimes.
